Gorgeous & ornate holloware gold mourning brooch from the America Civil War era (tests as 10K but unmarked). The brooch is quite large (about 2-1/4" x 1-3/4"), stands almost 5/8" high, and is equipped with a sturdy, elongated pinstem that extends a full 5/8" from the edge of the brooch, a c-clasp and a tubular hinge. The rectangular center compartment features a lock of woven blond hair under glass/crystal, surrounded by 26 seed pearls and 17 large garnets. The bezel set garnets are a very dark red color, but not as black as they appear in my photo. The back of the hair compartment is engraved with what appears to be a name. This is a wonderful scrolled and engraved mid Victorian design, in overall excellent condition. WAS $325.00 - NOW $315.00
